Sundance Channel’s Eco Trip: Green Reality

The Sundance Channel has been doing Green content on TV for over a year now, via The Green. Sundance calls this, “television’s first regularly-scheduled programming destination dedicated to the environment.” With shows such as “Eco Biz” and “Big Ideas For A Small Planet”, Sundance has brought relevant, interesting Green programming to TV.

And now it looks like Sundance Channel is doing a Green ‘reality’ show:

Seven series are in development for 2009, including “Eco-Trip: The Real Cost of Living,” which will examine the carbon footprint of items such as toilet paper, roses or a cup of coffee, tracing the “eco-story” behind each item from its origination to disposal.

This isn’t at all surprising, knowing the general Sundance green policies and mission of conservation and preserving natural beauty. Robert Redford has spearheaded these types of initiatives for years.

2009 isn’t exactly this summer. However, much like Discovery Channel’s Planet Green - which was scheduled to launch early this year, Sundance sees the value in Green content on TV. The second season of The Green just began on April 1st, so we’ll probably see “Eco-Trip” on the 3rd season’s schedule.

I’m excited to see this show, although the Sundance Channel is not part of my available programming. I’m sure they’ll make it available in downloadable form (through iTunes), as they did with Big Ideas For A Small Planet.

Either way, this should definitely make for great viewing when it debuts next year. Keep an eye on simple+green for any updates!
