A Green Cable Company?

I’m sick. My boys are sick. It has been a brutal week so far as a result, which is why I didn’t get around to posting yesterday.

But I did see something that caught my eye. While checking the DirecTV site for some programming info (Baseball Opening Day!), I noticed something that said “Go Green“.

Really? What is this all about? Some use of sustainable energy sources, or way to donate to eco-friendly causes through your cable bill?

Nope. It’s an advertisement for signing up for Auto Bill Pay, paperless billing, and email updates. They offer a one-time bill credit (amount not indicated).

In all fairness, they are trying to cut down on paper waste. But it also sounds like a great move them on two fronts:
1. By moving customers to online billing, they can reduce the amount of cost to use postal mail.
2. By touting their “Green” ways, they can elicit some positive PR.

All told, I know that having a cable setup is not the greenest pursuit. But wouldn’t it be great if there was a Green cable company? One of the big ones must be doing something to differentiate themselves in an eco-friendly way.

If you know of a cable company that is Green, please let me know!
