Push Mowers Rule

Weather in the San Francisco Bay Area has been phenomenal this weekend: clear, 70 degrees, sunny. It’s as if spring came two weeks early.
With sunny weather comes yard work. For me, this means breaking out my favorite tool: my push lawn mower. One hour and one beer later, I’m tired but writing this post.
Five reasons to love the non-gas push lawn mower:
1. Quiet: the noise pollution from gas mowers is atrocious. Push mowers make a fraction of the sound. And it’s a more pleasing sound to say the least.
2. It’s manual: no air pollution!
3. Exercise! Why not get out there and sweat a little?
4. Zen: there is something very peaceful about doing yard work. It is methodical, something you can focus on while relaxing.
5. Inexpensive. Push mowers average $100, which can be up to 4 time cheaper than their gas-powered counterparts. Plus you never have to buy gas or pay for electricity. Once you buy your mower you’re done.
If you have a gas mower, or pay gardeners to do your yard, encourage them to eliminate the gas mower and gas blower. Or find someone who won’t use gas-powered tools.
Better yet, why not pay a kid from the neighborhood to cut your lawn while you kick back. With a beverage of your choice, of course!

That’s really cool. I have an electric mower, which is awesome, but not as big of an energy savings.
Right on. I get so annoyed when my neighbors’ crank up their loud and foul-smelly gas lawn mowers. We have a manual mower. It may not mow as fast, but fast enough. I’d take the slower pace, without sound and olfactory pollution any day. Thanks for the post!
