The farmer’s market season is upon us, and time to reap the benefits. With daylight savings time change this weekend, and the first day of spring just 2 weeks away, I thought it would be a good time to revisit the simple joy of a farmer’s market.

Do you know where your local farmer’s market is? Do you know where to find good local farms? Here are 3 great resources for both, one quite specific to the San Francisco Bay Area:

1. Eat The Seasons: a resource for local produce. (Tip of the hat to Behind The Greens for this). Eat The Seasons lists all of the best local foods to buy and eat per month. Additionally, they have a nationwide farmer’s market listing. Use the map, and click on a state to get farmer’s market listings by city, or alphabetically. Great resource!

2. Local Harvest. Use Local Harvest to:

find farmers’ markets, family farms, and other sources of sustainably grown food in your area, where you can buy produce, grass-fed meats, and many other goodies. Want to support this great web site? Shop in the catalog for things you can’t find locally!

I’ve already located a lemon orchard near us that pretty much demands a visit!

3. Interested in where to find farmers markets in the San Francisco Bay Area? SFGate.com has created an SFGreen area. Within that, one very cool resource is the listing of farmers markets throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Some of this information, possible also with the above 2, is out of date. That said, this is a great listing for the Bay Area.

Do you have any resources that we can add to this list? Anything better or more complete? By using Eat The Seasons and a good farmer’s market, the possibilities for the best food possible are limitless!
