Emeril Green

Just when you thought he was just a (former) Food Network guy:
Emeril Lagasse has just signed on to join Planet Green Team with “Emeril Green”, a new food show designed for “the new green culture.”
To be featured on the Discovery Channel’s new 24/7 eco-lifestyle television network, Planet Green, Emeril Green will be shot on location at Whole Foods Market.
Eileen O’Neill, president and general manager of Planet Green, made the announcement:
“‘Emeril Green’ joins two greats in the world of cuisine. With his dynamic and entertaining style, Emeril has inspired millions of people to experience the joy of food and cooking. Whole Foods Market has been a leader in making organic and sustainably produced food a part of our daily lives,” said O’Neill. “Together, they are the winning ingredients for an innovative series that will redefine food shows for the new green culture.”
While this may seem like a curious pairing, I’m very excited to see what Planet Green has in store. Promoting sustainable and local cooking practices is such a great idea: unless I’ve missed a hook somewhere, why hasn’t the Food Network done this yet?
Planet Green is launching in June 2008, featuring original series and specials. Premiere episodes will be featured throughout the summer.
Ratings-wise, it’ll be interesting to see how this fares against the readjusted TV schedule and NBC’s decision to go with year-round programming.
