Sole Responsibility

Sole Responsibility is a non-profit out of Ottawa that is doing something remarkable with running shoes that are no longer brand new. Here is their mission:

We are a non-profit organization formed by a group of runners in Ottawa who want to donate gently used running and walking shoes overseas. As runners, we buy new running shoes every few months. Our old shoes are no longer suitable for training, but still have miles of life left in them. So we started to think of all the runners in all the events in the National Capital area – and we thought it would be great if we could collect their used shoes and ship them to people who really need them. Each spring, we will collect shoes at Ottawa running events. We will also have drop-off sites throughout the city. We ask for a donation of $2 per pair to offset the shipping costs.

You can donate money to their cause, or if you are proximate you could drop off shoes for donation. They don’t have drop-off locations listed yet.

If you’re a business who is looking to get involved, you can email them to start the ball rolling.

What would it take to get something like this going in California? It would take me or some other enterprising runner getting off their behind!

I’m loaded down with projects now, but I like this idea a lot. This is percolating for now.

Kudos to Sole Responsibility!
