Oscars Go Green

Oscar.com has a list of ways to “go green” - actually with help from the NRDC - most of which this community knows about.

What makes it interesting is that someone did actually attempt to “green” the oscars. From their site:

This year, the Academy, the Oscar telecast producer Laura Ziskin and the entire production team endeavored to select supplies and services with a sensitivity toward reducing the threats we face from global warming, species extinction, deforestation, toxic waste, and hazardous chemicals in our water and food. With guidance and assistance from the Natural Resources Defense Council, a non-partisan environmental and advocacy organization, we learned that it was easy (and often cost effective) to make simple changes to reduce Oscar’s ecological footprint. Here are a few of the things we learned (with help from the NRDC website www.nrdc.org)…

What kind of information are they providing? How to…

* Save Energy on the Road (buy a fuel-efficient car, keep your car in good condition, etc.)

* Save Energy at Home (buy energy-efficient products, use CFL bulbs, etc.)

* Save Resources at Home (recycle, buy recycled products, etc.)

* Save Resources at Work (buy energy-efficient office equipment, be thrifty with paper., etc.)

* Conserve Water (install a low-flow showerhead, low-flush toilet, etc.)

* Support Organic & Sustainable Farming (ask for organic produce, etc.)

So, the basics are covered, and perhaps we could argue that they do more.

Visitors to the site are likely people looking for information about the nominations, lists of all categories and nominees, details about the show.

It’s plausible that the site gets enough visitors to make this a viable source of education. The more information out there for the ‘general public’ the better, I say!
