The Pacific Ocean Is Polluted

Have you ever considered what happens to ocean-bound trash?
Greenpeace has an dunbelievable Pacific Ocean pollution animation.
You really have to see this to believe it.
Plastic and other durable trash that flows from waterways into the Pacific Ocean end up in something called the North Pacific Gyre. This is basically a big swirling “trash vortex” that will eventually be cycling all pollution out to the ocean space around Hawaii.
The direction of the flows are tied entirely to ocean currents, which keep the junk moving.
To get the full impact, slide the arrow on the bottom right to see what happens over time: 6 months to 6 years.
See how everything is projected to end up dumped in around Hawaii?
Pollution may not have the same urgent label or PR that global warming does, but this is startling nonetheless.
Certainly anyone reading this blog understands the impact. How do we affect change on this level?
I’m certainly thinking alot about action over words, although they both need each other.
