Your Carbon Footprint Is Too Big

simple + green - your carbon footprint is too big

Two sites came up today that I thought were important to share:

Breathingearth.com succeeds because sometimes it takes some pictures to clarify where words don’t suffice.

BreathingEarth is a Flash-driven site using simulation to show how much C02 is being emitted at any given point, in any spot in the world.

The site is basically an interactive representation of how much carbon dioxide is being emitted, how much each country is responsible for, and where their population stands.

They also display birth and death information (as provided by World Factbook). The carbon dioxide emissions data provided by United Nations study (2002).

Ecofoot.org is the other site I ran into today. Ecofoot is a quiz-driven site that can help you determine your ecological footprint. Education fits into the equation as well.

The site is one of nearly 100 that perform a similar task. However, we all need to run through these to really understand our impact on the environment.

I consider myself pretty green, but even I (pescatarian, limited commute, recycler) scored a 13 acre footprint. The average for someone in my area is 24 acres.

And if everyone lived like me, we would need 3 planets. Yikes!

Every single day I think about how to reduce my own footprint. My goal is to get every single person I know to do the same, and make changes that affect.
