Giving Up Carbon For Lent
An organization in England has created a really great Carbon Reduction movement. They’re asking people to give up Carbon consumption for Lent.
Based on the “local church” concept, tearfund does a good deal of work to help the world’s poorest communities. They also bring awareness to how global warming is affecting every single community: rich or poor. This is one of their more visible programs.
As they put it: “Climate change is not an opinion or a contentious notion. It is a fact.”
If having a bit of spirituality is your cup of tea, and live in the UK, sign up for their newsletter. They’ll also put you on their carbon map.
For anyone outside of the UK, why not forward this to your local church. Or any local church.
Ask them to consider a partnership to bring the tearfund “giving up Carbon for Lent” movement to your area.
Make this global!
Regardless of your thoughts on religion, organized or otherwise, tearfund does seem to be doing an extremely gracious thing by helping less fortunate. I am doubly impressed with their actions around carbon reduction.
