Clear Your Clutter, Improve Your Life
On to the simplicity side of simple+green:
I listened to a great simplicity-focused podcast via morningcoach.com last week. Morning Coach is a positivity and motivation-oriented community “manifesting abundance, health and happiness”. A great place to visit if you want regular doses of inspiration.
The key aspect to their community is a daily morning call from the Morning Coach founder. Calls are archived as podcast. I subscribe through iTunes (no charge).
The calls/podcasts are genuinely motivational. The topic last Friday was Clutter. As in: when we remove the clutter from our lives, we make room for the new things we want: relationships, possessions, money and more.
The main point was discussion something they refer to as the “vacuum law of prosperity”. This law states that by reducing the amount of Things you own, you make room for new and better Things in your life.
It works like a vacuum: the space left by removing clutter is open. The openness is freeing, since you are physically cleaner and clearer. And by creating this open space, you are free to receive better things: both physical and emotional. Abundance!
One constant in what I read about simplifying our lives is the reduction of “things”. This makes a ton of sense.
But to reduce clutter is the most common sense approach out there. Take your workspace for example. If you’re a chef, you can’t have a messy counter space. You need a clean, organized area to work in: cutting block on the left, knives sharpened and in the correct order on the right, etc.
Apply this idea to your own workspace, and you can pay immediate dividends. And why stop there? Start with your workspace, and then clear the clutter out of your garage, your bedroom, your car, your entire house. The difference in how light you will feel is amazing.
Can you tell that I’m motivated by this? I find this topic of Clutter Clearing fascinating. I’ll revisit it from time to time, (especially the work of Karen Kingston).
I really like listening to things that put me into a positive frame of mind. There are so many “motivational” products and gurus out there, it’s easy to be numbed and overloaded. Morning Coach has been different so far, and it all adds up to me:
The daily calls are great: short, conversational and informative.
No up-sell and “click here to buy my book!” sales tactics (at least, not yet).
The founder/host is both knowledgeable and interesting.
If this is your type of thing, check out Morning Coach. At least listen to an archived call or two to see what you think.
