Aveda 100% Wind Powered
We received a postcard mailer from Aveda today. Included in that is the news that Aveda is the first beauty company manufacturing with 100% certified wind power. How cool is that?
How does this work? According to their site:
Funding of new wind turbines generates enough wind energy to offset 100% of the electricity use by their primary manufacturing facility in Minnesota, USA.
The wind energy goes into a utility grid from which they draw power.
Aveda has long been known as an environmentally-conscious and Green company. But this is quite a leap forward.
Transitioning over to wind energy would come with a sizeable initial cost. But, I’m guessing that - like solar power - the upfront setup cost would be offset as time goes on.
Not to mention the gains realized with the boost in company profile, due to publicity around their announcement. Lastly, the environmental benefits are huge. Sooner than you think, I expect to see more businesses making similar announcements.
I just started looking into wind power, or energy created by wind turbines. Over the next week, I’ll be digging into this topic. I’m excited to get more information, for myself and to share!
