Good Karma 2008 Style
We have our good karma kick-off to 2008: a fast food worker found a $185,000 check on the sidewalk… and returned it to the bank. These stories come along periodically, but are always inspiring.
The quote at the end of this article is what caught my eye:
Damone said that although he knew $185,000 could pay his rent and other bills for a long time, he was never tempted to try to cash it and splurge.
He says he remembered his mother’s words: If you take something, you lose three times that amount — and if you do something good, something good comes back to you.
The balance of karma is such a basic belief. We all understand it and live by it. But I really like the first part, that by taking you lose three times that amount.
Imagine if everyone lived by the same rules:
* steal a parking spot = losing 3 great ones
* not returning extra change you mistakenly receive = lose 3 times that much cash
* take your neighbor’s newspaper… well, you get the idea
Of course, it is a matter of changing minds one at a time. What a great concept to begin the year with!
