Green Running
Flipping through the December 2007 edition of Runner’s World magazine, I found an ad for something called the Runner’s World and Nature’s Path Green Team.
From the site:
The Green team is a community of runners and active individuals who care about the environment and a longer and healthier course for the planet. As a member of The Green team, you will be given the tools and resources to help shape the world where you live and run, locally and globally. This includes a number of running and sustainability resources from the experts at RUNNER’S WORLD and Nature’s Path, including training, opportunities to participate in green-friendly races and tips and tools for living organically.
They feature:
Green Races - Portland Marathon, Royal Victoria Marathon, Toronto Marathon
Nutrition tips - an organic food primer, plus recipes involving Nature’s Path cereals.
Training Programs, Green Gallery and Charity resources.
All in all, this is a great start. The goal is to bring runners, generally an environmentally-conscious bunch, to a green focus.
I can’t wait to see more races added. The keys are to add Recycling, Green Race Resources, Entertainment and Transportation.
The next race I run (none planned yet on this cold November night!) will most certainly be Green. Training is my next step!
