Simpleandgreen.net is a place where we’ll discover, uncover and reveal the ways to a better way of living. My goal is a simple life that is grounded in green practices. OK, but what does that mean?
First of all: what does Green mean? The world of Green is wide. It is about choosing the right energy-efficient light bulb, and sustainable building materials, buying organic produce and solar power. Making choices that help save resources while improving our contribution to the Earth. So many things are now seen as Green, and it is a term that will continue to grow in popularity is more and more focus is put on the renewable, sustainable and eco-friendly ways of living. You see the term used in oil company adverts, product lines at Home Depot and in cosmetic company product launches. It is big and getting bigger.
Simplicity is equally wide, but a little more elusive. It’s a lot like love: you know it when you feel it. A simple life is clutter-free, pared-down (but not overly minimal), health-aware. In simplicity, the goal is to have no wasted movements, a phrase I like to use when talking about running. It is less being more, but a full and rich life being the ultimate.
Where simpleandgreen.net wants to go is that place where the two very broad circles overlap. To me, they have more in common then not. And it is some of my personal experience that will inform this site. Some things are easy: I drive a Toyota Prius, we used low-VOC paint in our house, buy as much organic and local food as possible and dream of living off of the grid. But, much of the content will be what I learn along the way. There is a huge amount to learn, so the experience of running this is going to be my education as well. I’m ready to have some fun with this.
